Stephanie McKenna’s
Weaving Portfolio
I began learning to weave in the fall of 2020 as a way to connect to my northern European lineages, and have enjoyed the hands-on experience of creating textiles on a backstrap loom (tied to a tree in my garden) as well as a floor loom, and most recently through experimenting with traditional tapestry techniques. I’m still very much at the beginning of the learning process and having a total blast.
Huge thanks to my teachers Madelyn Van Der Hoogt of the Weavers School, Reba Siero at Walnut Creek Community Arts, Joanne Hall of Glimakra, Mimi Luebbermann and Marli de Stewart of Windrush Farm, Tricia Goldberg, Stacy Speyer at the Richmond Art Center, Robin Lynd of Meridian Jacobs, Kimberly Hamhill, and my Scottish weaver ancestors.
